Alouette is a second early variety renowned for its vibrant red skin and creamy yellow flesh. With its excellent blight resistance, it’s a reliable choice for gardeners seeking both high-quality potatoes and ease of cultivation. Alouette is versatile in the kitchen, perfect for baking, boiling, mashing, and roasting.

To grow Alouette potatoes, plant the seed potatoes in well-drained, fertile soil with plenty of organic matter, such as compost or well-rotted manure. Choose a sunny location for optimal growth. Plant the seed potatoes 10 cm (4 inches) deep and space them 30 cm (12 inches) apart, with rows 60 cm (24 inches) apart. As the plants grow, regularly earth up the soil around the stems to prevent the tubers from being exposed to light, which can lead to greening.

Alouette potatoes are typically ready for harvest 15–18 weeks after planting, once the foliage has begun to yellow and die back. Gently lift the potatoes with a fork, being careful not to damage the tubers. After harvesting, allow the potatoes to dry in a shaded, cool area for a few hours before storing them in a dark, well-ventilated, and cool space.

With its excellent taste, blight resistance, and versatility in the kitchen, Alouette is a fantastic choice for any gardener looking to grow high-quality potatoes with minimal hassle.
