Enhance the Colour of Your Hydrangeas
Westland Hydrangea Colourant is a specially formulated salt that changes the colour of hydrangea flowers. It transforms pale pink varieties into vibrant blue and darker pink varieties into a mauve-blue shade. This colourant is enriched with essential nutrients, including aluminium and iron salts, which acidify the soil and promote optimal flower colour changes. It also contains potassium to boost flowering and nitrogen for greener leaves. For best results, use this product in acid soils or with ericaceous compost if your soil is naturally alkaline.
Why Use?
Westland Hydrangea Colourant helps adjust soil pH to encourage blue flower development in hydrangeas. It provides essential nutrients that support strong root establishment and overall plant health. The combination of iron and aluminium salts ensures effective colour transformation while boosting flowering and leaf vibrancy.
What to Expect
When applied correctly, pale pink hydrangeas will develop blue flowers, while darker pink varieties will turn mauve. However, some hydrangeas are specifically bred to retain their pink colour regardless of soil conditions, so it is recommended to check the plant label before use.
When to Use
Westland Hydrangea Colourant should be applied during the growing season, from April to September. Consistent application will ensure the best results in maintaining and enhancing the desired flower colour.
How to Use
For established shrubs, mix 50g of Hydrangea Colourant per square metre into the soil. Every seven days during the growing season, dissolve 50g in 5 litres of water and apply to the soil around the shrub, avoiding direct contact with plant foliage.
For container-grown hydrangeas, mix 50g of Hydrangea Colourant per 5 litres of compost at the time of potting. Every seven days during the growing season, dissolve 50g in 5 litres of water and apply around the plant’s soil.
For best results, use in acid soil conditions. If your soil is naturally alkaline, use an ericaceous compost, such as John Innes Ericaceous Compost or Gro-Sure Ericaceous Compost, or double the application rate.
General Advice
Store in a dry, frost-free place and keep away from children and pets. Always follow the recommended application rates to achieve the best results without harming your plants. Wear gloves and protective clothing when handling the product, and wash hands thoroughly after use.
