2kg Duke of York Seed Potatoes
Duke of York is a much-loved first early seed potato and a long-standing favourite with Irish gardeners thanks to its excellent flavour and dependable performance. These 2kg packs contain certified seed potatoes selected for strong, healthy growth, producing smooth, oval tubers with rich yellow flesh. Duke of York is particularly valued as an early crop, giving you the chance to enjoy homegrown potatoes at the very start of the season.

Potato Type and Growing Season
This variety is classed as a first early potato, meaning it is planted earlier in the year and harvested sooner than other types. Duke of York is typically planted in late February to early March once the risk of severe frost has passed, and it is usually ready to harvest in around 10 to 12 weeks. It is a reliable all-rounder with good resistance to dry rot, making it a solid choice for Irish soil conditions.

Planting and Care Advice
For best results, chit your Duke of York seed potatoes before planting by placing them in a bright, frost-free area until short, sturdy shoots appear. Plant into light, well-drained soil that has been enriched with compost or well-rotted manure, choosing a sunny position in the garden. Place the seed potatoes around 10cm deep, spacing them roughly 30cm apart with about 60cm between rows. As the plants grow, earth up soil around the stems to protect developing tubers from light and improve yields.

Harvesting and Storage
Duke of York potatoes are ready to lift once the foliage begins to yellow and die back, usually in early to mid-summer. Harvest carefully using a fork to avoid damaging the tubers. As a first early variety, these potatoes are best enjoyed fresh rather than stored long term, offering unbeatable flavour straight from the ground.

Best Uses in the Kitchen
Thanks to their smooth texture and rich taste, Duke of York potatoes are extremely versatile. They are particularly good for boiling and salads, while also performing well for baking, mashing and roasting. Their flavour makes them a standout choice for simple dishes where the potato is the star of the plate.
