Maris Piper is one of the best-known and most widely grown potato varieties in Ireland, prized for its reliability, flavour and outstanding cooking performance. Potato Type and Growing Season
Maris Piper is a maincrop potato variety, making it ideal for gardeners looking for strong yields and good storage potential. Planting usually takes place from March into April once soil conditions allow, with harvesting around 16 to 20 weeks later, typically from late summer into early autumn. As a maincrop, it is well suited to being stored and used throughout the autumn and winter months.

Planting and Growing Advice
For best results, chit Maris Piper seed potatoes before planting by placing them in a bright, frost-free area until short, sturdy shoots develop. Plant into well-drained soil enriched with plenty of organic matter such as compost or well-rotted manure, choosing a sunny position in the garden. Set the seed potatoes 10 to 15cm deep, spacing them about 30cm apart with roughly 60cm between rows. Earth up the plants regularly as they grow to protect the developing tubers from light and to maximise yield.

Harvesting and Storage
