Canna Tropicanna Black (Select from Taylor's)
€7.95
Canna Tropicanna Black from the Select by Taylor’s range is a bold and dramatic summer flowering plant, grown primarily for its exceptionally dark foliage and striking colour contrast. Large, paddle-shaped leaves emerge in deep shades of near-black and rich burgundy, creating a strong architectural presence in the garden. From early summer onwards, tall stems rise above the foliage bearing vivid red flowers that stand out beautifully against the dark leaves. Flowering all summer long, this canna brings a powerful, exotic feel to borders and large containers and is ideal for creating high-impact displays in Irish gardens.
Key Features
This canna is selected for its very dark foliage, offering dramatic colour and structure even before flowering begins. It produces vibrant red blooms throughout the summer months, adding contrast and interest above the foliage. With its upright habit and bold appearance, it works particularly well as a focal plant and performs reliably in Irish conditions when planted in a warm, sunny, sheltered position.
Size
Canna Tropicanna Black reaches an approximate flowering height of 100cm, or around 40 inches, providing strong height and visual impact in planting schemes.
Useful For
Ideal for garden borders, large patio containers, exotic planting schemes and statement displays where bold foliage and colour contrast are key features.
Aftercare
Plant canna rhizomes in spring once the risk of frost has passed, in fertile, moisture-retentive but well-drained soil in a sunny, sheltered spot. Water regularly during the growing season and feed to encourage strong growth and flowering. After the first frosts, lift rhizomes and store them in a cool, dry, frost-free place over winter, ready for replanting the following spring.
