Perfect for both novice and experienced gardeners, it provides an excellent way to grow delicious aubergines with stunning fruit shapes and colours all in one go.
This collection is designed to provide a season-long harvest, with a range of colours and sizes to suit every dish. Whether you’re looking to use them in Mediterranean dishes like moussaka, stir-fries, or hearty stews, these aubergines are sure to impress.
Sowing Instructions:
Sow the seeds indoors from February to March in small pots or seed trays filled with good-quality seed compost. Plant the seeds 0.5 cm deep and keep them in a warm, sheltered spot at around 20-25°C for optimal germination, which usually takes 7-14 days. Once the seedlings are large enough to handle and have formed a couple of true leaves, transplant them into larger pots or individual containers.
After the risk of frost has passed and the soil has warmed up, typically in late May, transplant the seedlings into their final position outdoors in a sheltered, sunny spot. Aubergines thrive in well-drained, fertile soil, so ensure your planting site is rich in organic matter.
Growing Tips:
Aubergines need warm temperatures and full sun to thrive, ideally between 18-24°C during the day. Regular watering is essential, but be careful not to overwater as aubergines don’t like soggy soil. Feeding with a balanced fertiliser will help encourage healthy growth and a bountiful harvest. Mulching around the base of the plants will help retain moisture and suppress weeds.
These plants also benefit from regular staking to support their growing branches, which can become heavy with fruit.
Harvesting:
Aubergine Three Knight Collection F1 typically produces fruit 70-80 days after sowing. Harvest the aubergines when they are glossy, firm, and have reached their full colour. For the best flavour and texture, pick them while they are still young and tender. Simply use a sharp knife or scissors to cut the fruit from the plant, taking care not to damage the stem or surrounding branches.
With the Aubergine Three Knight Collection F1, you can enjoy a variety of aubergine recipes, each offering unique flavour and texture to enhance your homegrown vegetable garden.
