2kg Kelly Seed Potatoes
Kelly is a modern, high-performing maincrop potato variety that has quickly become popular with Irish gardeners thanks to its excellent reliability and strong disease resistance. Supplied in convenient 2kg packs, Kelly seed potatoes produce smooth, oval tubers with clean golden-yellow skin and creamy, full-flavoured flesh. This variety is well suited to home growing and delivers consistently high yields, even in more challenging growing seasons.

Potato Type and Growing Season
Kelly is classed as a maincrop potato, making it ideal for gardeners who want a substantial harvest with good storage potential. Planting usually takes place in April once the soil has warmed, with harvesting around 20 to 22 weeks later. This places harvest time in late summer to early autumn, providing a dependable supply of potatoes for use well into the colder months.

Planting and Growing Advice
For best results, chit Kelly seed potatoes before planting by placing them in a bright, frost-free spot until short shoots develop. Plant into fertile, well-drained soil that has been improved with plenty of organic matter such as compost or well-rotted manure. Choose a sunny position and plant the seed potatoes around 15cm deep, spacing them approximately 30cm apart with 60cm between rows. Regular earthing up as the plants grow is essential to protect the developing tubers from light and to maximise yield.

Harvesting and Storage
Kelly potatoes are ready to harvest once the foliage has yellowed and begun to die back naturally. Lift carefully using a fork to avoid damaging the tubers. After harvesting, allow the potatoes to dry briefly in a cool, shaded area before storing. Thanks to their excellent blight resistance and strong skins, Kelly potatoes store very well when kept in a dark, dry and well-ventilated location.

Best Uses in the Kitchen
Kelly potatoes are valued for their creamy texture and versatility. They are ideal for boiling, baking, mashing and roasting, holding their shape well while delivering a rich, satisfying flavour. This makes them a dependable choice for everyday meals as well as more traditional Irish dishes.
