2kg Red Duke of York Seed Potatoes
Red Duke of York is a distinctive first early potato variety, valued for its striking red skin, large tubers and firm texture. Supplied in 2kg packs, this variety is a colourful alternative to traditional early potatoes and delivers excellent flavour and dependable results in Irish gardens. Red Duke of York is particularly popular with growers who want an early crop that performs well both in the ground and in the kitchen.

Potato Type and Growing Season
Red Duke of York is classed as a first early seed potato, making it ideal for planting early in the season and harvesting from early summer. Planting usually takes place once the risk of frost has passed in spring. Crops are typically ready to lift from June to July, around 10 to 12 weeks after planting, allowing you to enjoy fresh homegrown potatoes early in the year.

Planting and Growing Advice
For best results, chit Red Duke of York seed potatoes by placing them in a bright, cool and frost-free location before planting. Choose a sunny spot with well-drained soil and improve the ground with organic matter such as compost or well-rotted manure. Plant the seed potatoes 10 to 12cm deep in shallow ridges, spacing them approximately 20 to 22cm apart, with about 60cm between rows. Earth up the plants when they reach around 20cm in height to protect developing tubers and encourage a higher yield. Regular watering will help improve crop size and reduce the risk of scab.

Harvesting and Storage
Red Duke of York potatoes are ready to harvest once the foliage begins to yellow and die back, usually from June through to July. Lift carefully using a fork to avoid damaging the tubers. As a first early variety, these potatoes are best enjoyed fresh and are not intended for long-term storage, offering excellent flavour straight from the garden.

Best Uses in the Kitchen
With its firm texture and good size, Red Duke of York is an excellent choice for roasting. It also performs very well for boiling and baking, holding its shape nicely while delivering a satisfying flavour. Its versatility makes it a great option for early-season meals and summer cooking.
