Gardening & Plant Care

€6.95

Westland Specialist Bulb Planting Mix is a premium peat-free compost specially formulated for planting and potting bulbs. Designed to create the ideal growing environment below the soil, this specialist blend encourages strong, resilient roots while supporting healthy growth and vibrant, abundant flowers.

Enriched with Westland’s Zinc Complex, the mix helps support natural plant health and resilience while encouraging effective water and nutrient transport, healthy root and shoot development and photosynthesis. Added grit provides excellent drainage around bulbs, helping to prevent them from sitting in excessively wet compost while creating the free-draining conditions many flowering bulbs prefer.

A balanced feed provides essential nutrition to encourage strong growth, rich foliage and impressive flowering. Suitable for both indoor and outdoor bulb planting, this versatile 20 litre mix is ideal for spring-flowering favourites including daffodils, tulips, hyacinths, alliums, crocuses and many other bulbs grown in pots, containers and garden borders.

How to Use Outdoors
Before planting, gently work the compost between your hands to restore its intended texture. Dig a hole approximately 10–15cm (4–6 inches) deep, or to the appropriate depth for your chosen bulb, and add a layer of planting mix. Position the bulb with the shoot facing upwards, cover with compost and firm gently. Water thoroughly after planting and feed regularly after flowering where required.

How to Use Indoors
Half fill your chosen container with the planting mix and position the bulbs firmly with their shoots facing upwards. Cover with compost while leaving the shoots visible, firm gently and water. Initially place the container in a dark, cool and airy position, watering when necessary. When shoots reach approximately 2.5–5cm (1–2 inches), move the container to a light, cool location. Once the shoots are fully green, it can be moved to a warmer position.

Aftercare
Once flowering has finished, allow the foliage to die back naturally. Bulbs that are being lifted can then be dried and stored in a cool, dry and frost-free location until they are ready for replanting.

General Advice
This planting mix is not suitable for ericaceous, lime-hating plants. Store the bag in a dry, frost-free location away from weedkillers and other garden chemicals, reseal after use and wear gloves when handling compost.
