Viburnum davidii

Quick Overview

Introduced from China in 1904, this is a compact evergreen shrub, making a spreading mound of branching stems and large leathery leaves that gleam richly in sunlight. The dull white flowers are a rather restrained display but, on female plants, they are followed by egg-shaped fruits which are bright turquoise blue and last through into winter, when they stand out enchantingly among the lustrous green foliage. Combine several plants to make wide-spreading ground cover and to ensure plenty of berries on the female plants. Plant a few to ensure berries.

Space about 3ft apart.

The Royal Horticultural Society has given it its prestigious Award of Garden Merit (AGM).

Grows to 2ft high and 3-4 ft wide.
