Lophomyrtus ralphii 'Purpurea'

Lophomyrtus ralphii 'Purpurea'

striking evergreen shrub from New Zealand. The dark purple/red foliage is carried on an upright framework. The myrtle-like white flowers appear in the summer. They are followed by red berries that darken as they mature.

A really interesting and uncommon plant. Frost hardy to minus 8-10 C, so worth planting in a sheltered warm spot, such as against a warm wall, or in amongst a shrub border. Soil should be fertile, moist but well drained and humus rich.

Very good plant for city or coastal gardens.

Grows up to 5-6ft high x 3ft wide. Good in sun or partial shade.
