Just the sound of the word 'honeysuckle' is pleasant - it brings to mind warm summer evenings with drifting sweet scents and the sounds of bumble bees busying themselves sipping nectar!
Ancient folklore believes that if a honeysuckle climbing plant grows around the entrance to the home it prevents goblins and witches from entering, and is said to bring good fortune. In many parts of the world honeysuckles have often been a symbol of affection and devotion. In Victorian times, however, young ladies were forbidden from selecting honeysuckles to use as cut flowers because they were considered to have too luscioius a scent which would cause them to have dreams which were far too risqué!
