Allium Sphaerocephalon, commonly known as Drumstick Allium, is a distinctive ornamental onion producing dense, egg-shaped flower heads that gradually change from green to rich maroon-red and deep purple as they mature. Flowering from May to June and reaching approximately 60cm in height, this elegant variety adds movement, texture and striking colour to borders, prairie-style planting and naturalised gardens. Its slender stems sway beautifully amongst grasses and perennials, creating a relaxed, natural display.

Thriving in full sun and fertile, well-drained soil, Allium Sphaerocephalon is a hardy perennial bulb that is highly attractive to bees, butterflies and other beneficial pollinators. It is easy to grow, performs best when planted in generous groups and also makes an excellent cut flower, with its unusual blooms adding interest to both fresh and dried arrangements.
