Specially Blended for Healthy Bulb Growth
Westland Peat Free Bulb Planting & Potting Mix is designed to provide the perfect growing conditions for bulbs, ensuring healthy root development and vibrant flowering. With added grit for free drainage and a balanced blend of essential nutrients, this mix is ideal for both indoor and outdoor bulb planting.

Key Features
This bulb planting mix contains added grit to ensure free drainage, preventing waterlogging and reducing the risk of bulb rot. The carefully balanced blend of essential nutrients and trace elements supports strong, healthy root growth and lush flowering. Suitable for both indoor and outdoor bulbs, it provides the right environment for planting in containers, borders, and garden beds. The addition of Zinc Complex enhances plant resilience, encouraging robust growth by improving nutrient absorption and strengthening the plant’s natural defences. Being 100% peat-free, it is an environmentally responsible choice, reducing the impact on peatland ecosystems while still delivering outstanding results.

How to Use
For planting bulbs indoors, begin by filling the base of a clean container with Westland Bulb Planting & Potting Mix. Position the bulbs firmly, ensuring they are facing upwards. Cover with more compost, leaving only the tips visible. Place the container in a cool, dark, and airy place, such as a cupboard or an unheated greenhouse. Check regularly to ensure the compost does not dry out, and water when necessary. Once the shoots have reached 1-2 inches in height, move the container to a bright but cool location with a temperature of around 10ºC or 50ºF. When the shoots turn fully green, transfer the container to a warmer room, keeping it away from direct heat sources and draughts.

For aftercare of indoor bulbs, once flowering has finished, move the container to a cool, bright spot and continue to water and feed regularly. This will help strengthen the bulbs for future flowering seasons.

For planting bulbs outdoors, dig a hole 4-6 inches deep and add a layer of Westland Bulb Planting & Potting Mix at the base. Firmly position the bulbs into the compost, ensuring they are upright. Fill the remainder of the hole with more compost and water thoroughly after planting.

For aftercare of outdoor bulbs, continue watering regularly, especially in dry conditions. Once flowering has finished, apply a liquid feed to maintain bulb health and ensure a strong bloom for the following season.

Why Choose Westland Bulb Planting & Potting Mix?
This premium peat-free compost is formulated with Zinc Complex, an essential element that promotes plant growth by aiding the production of auxin, a key plant hormone. Zinc also plays a crucial role in improving water and nutrient transport within the plant, resulting in stronger roots and healthier shoots. The added grit ensures excellent drainage, preventing bulbs from becoming waterlogged, while the balanced supply of nutrients supports long-lasting, vibrant blooms. With this specially blended mix, bulbs can fully utilize the available space in a pot or container for healthy root development. The formula also makes it easier to re-wet the soil, helping it retain moisture while still allowing excess water to drain away efficiently. This balanced water retention reduces the risk of root rot while keeping plants hydrated for longer.
